Private Yellowstone Tours

Most visitors get one day in Yellowstone and spend half of it in traffic. You don’t have to do it that way.

Most families leave Yellowstone wishing they'd done it differently. Yours will leave wanting to come back.

Yellowstone is 2.2 million acres with no cell service, unpredictable crowds, and wildlife that doesn’t wait for late arrivals. Most visitors spend their first few hours figuring out where they are. Our guests spend that time watching a grizzly move through the sage at first light.

Teton Excursions runs 100% private Yellowstone tours out of Jackson Hole. The company’s owners, Aaron Bailey and Emily Lucas, are University of Wyoming certified Master Naturalists, a formal semester-long credentialing program focused on Wyoming ecosystems and wildlife. Every guide on our team is trained directly by them. We’ve completed more than 1,400 private tours across Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, and we run a maximum of three tours per day. Your group always has the vehicle to yourselves.

What separates us from every other Yellowstone tour operator isn’t just what happens inside the park. It’s everything surrounding it. Before you arrive, we’re always happy to help with hotel suggestions, restaurant recommendations, and activity planning so you know exactly which Snake River float trip is worth your time, which nights the Jackson Hole Rodeo runs, and how to make the most of every day you’re here. On tour day your guide shows up with a fully catered gourmet picnic lunch, great snacks and drinks throughout the day, Vortex optics, and a Digiscope adapter so your family comes home with wildlife photos they couldn’t have gotten any other way, and eight years of knowing exactly where to be and when. Most guests tell us they didn’t realize how much was handled until they looked back on the trip.

We pick up from Jackson Hole and Teton Village. Whether you have one day or five, we’ll build the tour around your group.

What Our Customers Say

Frequently Asked Questions About Private Yellowstone Tours

What makes a private Yellowstone tour different from a group tour?

On a private tour, your family or group is the only one in the vehicle. No strangers, no fixed bus schedule, no waiting on anyone else. Your guide builds the day around you: your pace, your interests, your kids’ attention spans, and the wildlife activity that morning. Group tours run the same route on the same schedule regardless of what’s actually happening in the park that day. Private tours don’t.

Do I need to plan my own hotels and activities, or does Teton Excursions help with that?

We handle as much or as little as you want. Most guests booking multi-day tours or traveling with extended family lean on us to help coordinate hotels, restaurant reservations, float trips, aerial tram bookings, and airport car rentals. Emily answers the phone personally, and she’s been doing this long enough to know which hotel rooms actually face the mountains and which restaurants are worth the wait in July.

Where do private Yellowstone tours depart from?

We pick up from Jackson Hole and Teton Village. If you’re flying into Jackson Hole Airport, we can help coordinate ground transportation so you’re not scrambling when you land.

How far in advance should I book a private Yellowstone tour?

Summer tours book out months in advance. We run a maximum of three tours per day, which means availability is limited by design. If you’re planning a summer trip, early spring booking is strongly recommended. May and September often have more flexibility, and the wildlife activity and crowd levels during those months are worth serious consideration

Are private Yellowstone tours suitable for families with young children or elderly grandparents?

Yes, and this is one of the things we’re most proud of. We regularly guide groups spanning three generations, grandparents, parents, and kids as young as three, and everyone leaves happy. The pace is entirely yours. If the four-year-old needs a snack break at a geyser overlook or grandma wants twenty extra minutes at Artist Point, that’s exactly what we do.

What wildlife can you see on a private Yellowstone tour?

Yellowstone has the most complete large mammal assemblage in the lower 48 states. Grizzly bear, black bear, wolf, bison, elk, moose, pronghorn, bighorn sheep, bald eagle, and osprey are all regularly sighted. Wildlife sightings depend heavily on timing, location, and guide knowledge. Teton Excursions tours depart early specifically to hit morning wildlife windows when animals are most active and most visible.

What is the best time of year to visit Yellowstone?

Late May through early July and September through October offer the best combination of active wildlife, manageable crowds, and accessible roads. Early spring brings grizzlies emerging from dens and bison calves in the valleys. Fall brings elk rut and wolf activity in Lamar Valley. The Teton Excursions team plans routes around what is actually happening in the park that week.

How much does a private Yellowstone tour cost from Jackson Hole?

Private Yellowstone day tours from Jackson Hole typically run $1,200 to $2,800 depending on the operator, group size, and what is included. Teton Excursions day tours include lunch, Vortex optics and Digiscope adapters, and a custom high-roof Ford Transit. The three-day flagship experience starts at $6,950 and includes full trip planning and hotel coordination by Emily Lucas. Contact Emily directly for exact pricing and availability.
